Michigan Seamless Tube is a leading manufacturer of 13 Chrome (Type 420) tubing for global oilfield companies. Type 420 steels are martensitic stainless grades, which are ferritic in the annealed condition, but are hardenable by either air or liquid quenching. The addition of chromium imparts the desired corrosion resistance and the ability to be hardened. This grade is useful in a wide variety of applications.  In the oil country products it is designed for its strength and Hydrogren Sulphide (H2S) corrosion resistance.  Typical applications include production tubing, down hole pump parts, gas lift valves, couplings and mandrels.

13 Chrome (Type 420) is also suitable for applications in the chemical and food processing industry.  This alloy is designed for heat resisting purposes for temperatures up to 1300 F°.

Type 420 alloys have the lowest chromium content of the stainless steels. Because of this they are, in general, the most economical of the stainless grades.
